Wright Flood Claims Process: What Your Agent Wants You to Know

After a flood or disaster that damages your home, we know you want to get back to your everyday life quickly. The Wright Flood claims team understands your situation and wants to help you, your family, and your community recover as quickly as possible.

We are here to help you get the process started and to prepare for your first meeting with an adjuster sent out by the Wright Flood claims team.

Wright Flood has been helping families recover for more than 40 years. And during that time, we’ve built up industry-leading experience that can help streamline the claims process and minimize damage to your property and your belongings.

Here are some tips our veteran claims team shares with policyholders following a flood disaster:

  • Carefully read the policy to review the coverage and deductible(s) you purchased.
  • Document your damaged building and personal property with photographs or video.
  • Prepare an inventory of the personal property that has been damaged and separate them from the undamaged personal property.
    • Undamaged items: Store them in a protected area to prevent theft, NOT out in the open or in the yard.
    • Damaged items: Can be moved/placed outside AFTER taking photos to document the damage.
  • If possible, DO NOT THROW ANYTHING AWAY. Keep all damaged items until the adjuster comes to inspect your loss.
  • If it is not possible to keep all damaged items before the adjuster arrives, please TAKE AS MANY PICTURES AS POSSIBLE BEFORE DISCARDING ANY OF THE DAMAGED ITEMS. Be sure they include:
    • Photos of both inside and outside damage
    • Label the photos by room before removing anything
    • Photos of damaged personal property
    • Be sure the photos include serial numbers on items such as: washer & dryer, hot water heater, kitchen appliances, TVs, computers, all electronic devices, etc.
  • If you had a previous flood loss to your property, please have any supporting documents, receipts, and photos available to provide to your adjuster.
  • If you would like to request an advance payment to help start your recovery sooner, communicate this to your adjuster directly.
  • If you choose to use a restoration company, please be aware that it is likely that not all the charges they include are reimbursable under a flood policy.
  • A Standard Flood Insurance Policy will include cleanup and drying out of flood waters. If you need additional information, please talk directly to your adjuster.

If you have building coverage:

  • Take pictures inside and out of damages that include flood water lines. You can use a ruler or tape measure to show the depth or height of the water lines in your pictures.
  • If you have experienced interior damage to your walls and would like to start the tear-out process, you can begin by removing damaged drywall up to one foot above the water line.
  • If you have carpeting, you may remove the damaged carpet and padding. Save a one-foot by one-foot (1’x1′) piece of each different type or style of carpet and padding from each room.

If you have contents coverage:

  • Take pictures of all personal items damaged.
  • Prepare a list of the personal items damaged. Make sure to include the name, age, and cost of each item on the list.

Remember, the claims team at Wright Flood is here to help you and your family recover.

  • All claim payments processed will be issued via paper check and will be mailed to the insured directly.
  • Wright Flood will NEVER call to request bank account information or ask for an APP to be downloaded to accept a claim payment. If unsure at any time, contact our office directly.
